I have been drinking green smoothies now for almost 4 months. I love them. I have to have them. I mean I seriously have to have them. It is the neatest, easiest way to get those green leafy vegetables that I have been hearing about since I was "how old". And, I feel so much better. I have more energy, I'm happier, and I lost 20 lbs. Hooray. The smoothy in the picture on the left is 2 - 4 cups of water, 1 banana, 1 apple, mixed greens, and flax seeds. 2 cups of water makes a thicker smoothy. I have started making mine with 4 cups of water and I like the thinner consistency. I also probably added 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1/4 pkg of tofu, and possibly the juice of 1 lemon. The tofu, olive oil and flax seeds I only have once a day but I have 2 - 3 smoothies a day with either an apple, pear, or banana and whatever greens I feel like combining. It depends a lot on what organics are available for a reasonable price. My usuals are kale, spinach, collard, dandelion, & chard. I tried mustard greens once but guess what? They actually taste like mustard :( Now, it's sad to say but Whole Foods is far and away the best store for organics. Their produce is just beautiful and reasonably priced. Jewel and Dominick have hardly any organics and they are not cared for very well. And they are usually higher priced. Probably because they don't buy in bulk and since they con't carry a lot, noone goes their to buy. It's a vicious circle I know but I have to go where they have the most variety.
