Why Green Smoothies?

Picture
An apple, kale, lemon, smoothie - Ummm . . . green!
If you're curious as to how I got started on the green smoothies, it was purely a health scare that got me going. I take cholesterol medication and I was taking "Crestor" under my doctor's care.  It was supposedly one with lesser side effects affecting the liver. But, all of a sudden my enzyme counts tripled. I had to go off of the medication, and alcohol for a couple of months and then have another test. Now I'm on a different medication for a trial period.  In the meantime, I read everything I could find on foods for a healthy liver.  And what do you know?  Green and leafy vegetables and Vitamin C are your livers best friends. Along with other healthy foods of course.  So I went right out and bought a blender and my first big bunch of greens.  That's when I went totally organic as well.  I figured the bug spray and weed killer couldn't be all that good for my liver.  Huh!  Who knew? Well, we've all known this stuff all along haven't we?  Your liver is this wonderful organ that processes everything that you eat and drink, everything that reaches your mucous membranes and everything that is absorbed through the skin.  That amounts to just about everything doesn't it?  So, I'm organic and I'm green and feeling so much healthier.
